For Teachers

carcinus crabOur goal is to help you bring science to life for your students through the use of real research and data collected in your neighborhood estuary.

Estuary Ecology Day

Once in the Fall and once in the Spring, we partner with San Francisco State University's Romberg Tiburon Center to offer one-day professional development workshops for educators. The typical agenda includes four, 30 minute lectures by SFSU scientists about their cutting edge marine research, several presentations of hands-on activities related to the research that you can use in your classroom, and a field experience onboard a research vessel. Check back in August and/or February for this year's dates, or contact the Education Coordinator at 415-338-3707.

Lesson Plans, Videos, and More

NERRS has many lesson plans, a video library, and other materials to help teachers incorporate authentic scientific research and data analysis into their classrooms. Our education resources, and access to real-time water-quality data, are available at www.estuaries.noaa.gov
