DESCRIPTION

For many Bay Area cities and counties, development of a Climate Action Plan or an update to a General Plan is an opportunity for a local government to proactively address climate change impacts in its planning initiatives. By considering climate change impacts and including adaptive measures in plan policies, local governments can help minimize and better manage climate risks to their communities. But why reinvent the wheel in the process of doing this? Come learn about communities that have taken on this challenge, share ideas, and network with colleagues from other Bay Area local governments.

This is a ½-day workshop on addressing climate change impacts and incorporating adaptation strategies in local Climate Action Plans and General Plan updates. Through review and discussion of local case studies, you will:

  • Learn from fellow Bay Area planners about motivations for and benefits of addressing climate change impacts and adaptation in Climate Action Plans and General Plan updates.
  • Discuss options and methods for creating adaptation components in these plans, and examine potential advantages and disadvantages of different approaches.
  • Become aware of individuals, organizations, resources, and additional case study examples that would support your own efforts to address climate change and adaptation in these types of plans.
