In July Dr. Stuart Siegel joined the NERR as Coastal Resilience Specialist. He will be focusing on our Sentinel Site Monitoring Plan and supporting expanded wetland restoration and monitoring efforts across the region. Dr. Siegel brings years of expertise to the NERR and we are very excited to have him.

Jared Lewis joined our staff in April and has been very busy in his newly created position of Stewardship Coordinator. Jared splits his time between Rush Ranch, NERR headquarters in Tiburon and the Institute for Geographic Information Science at SFSU. He recently presented a poster at the State of the Estuary Conference titled “Mapping the Marsh with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)”. The Poster shows both initial results and habitat maps of Rush Ranch which are fairly exciting.

In August we welcomed Alex Wick, Research Technician as the latest addition to our System Wide Monitoring Program (SWMP) team. He is proving invaluable already for his technical knowledge and resourcefulness in keeping our long term monitoring equipment up and running. Alex says “My short time here at the NERR has exposed me to a sense of camaraderie and energy only found when a team focuses on a common goal.”

Also in August Nyri Scanlon joined our team as a Research Assistant. She is a recent SFSU/RTC marine biology graduate and will be working on building our online reference library. Nyri has a wealth of library experience and is interested in working on protecting the resources of SF Estuary.

Please help us welcome all our new staff members and feel free to peruse our “People” page to read their full bios.
